KNOW YOUR MCAs Martin Wachira (Wachira Sasa) Riabai Ward Martin Wachira is the MCA for Riabai ward which covers all the way from Kihingo in Kiambu through Kirigiti. In the short time he has been an MCA, he has achieved many firsts for his people. Without even waiting for the help of county goverment, he realised for them to fight poverty, everyone must have money in the pocket. Many would like to start businesses but dont have capital. There are also parents with no school fees for their children. Its not that there is no money but people lack plans, leadership and honest financiers, He says. As of September 2013, he helped start a sacco called KUMISA SACCO. It is registered with all the certificates and a member ship of 800 active members. Kumisa is KUMI SACCO.the minimum contribution is 10 bob daily. The interest rate is 1% on reducing balance. Members are guaranteed that their money wont get lost since he personally is the patron. So far they. have issued more than 9,00,000 shillings as loans and they still have more than a million in the bank. Martin is encouraging all my his people to come on board they sail together. So far he has been able to bring poultry farmers from his ward together to form a company called Riabai Poultry Farmers Association. Working together with the farmers, they have stream lined this sector where by they get new markets for their products and also get feed on credit basis. They also proposed a shop at Riabai Shopping Center to the County Government of Kiambu to build them cold storage facilities for their products on transit to the market. Wachira also approached Farmers Choice company and secured a market for the pig farmers in his ward. In tandem with that, he helped the farmers to form Riabai Pig Farmers Association. This month of October, they will be attending a training session within Riabai ward. He also has launched a research into Rabbit Keeping and intends it purely as a youth product. He hopes this will keep the youth in gainful self-employment and also keep them off drug abuse. He is now in the process of bringing all the said groups together so that they can start table banking that will make money readily and easily invested and accessible to all. Wachira believes there is money but what lacks is the proper planning of the same. This is the discpline he wants to instill in the minds of his people to make them prosper. In future, he would like to introduce this to other wards and that will make Riabai a model ward to many.a
