Kabool hai said Alia loud and confidently... I had coached her to say these words aloud to the Qazi and witnesses Women are taught not to say it aloud but shake their head like cattle , because patriarchy demands women to be shy and bashful and men to proclaim these words with pride and aloud... Each time Alia and I had an argument I would tell her that I would open a champagne bottle when she married , last evening all that I uttered after she left were my tear ducts. (As I saw the little girl who would jump on the dining table to dance) walk away with strangers , patriarchy is so deep rooted that it compels a woman to spend her life with strangers, even in live in relationships women move in... Fortunately for us the Qazi was progressive and his sermon after the nikah one of the best I have heard , alias young friends said , it was so nice , most maulanas speeches are so scary Alia is a child at heart and hardly accustomed to taking responsibilities , I am a trifle worried . Fortunately for us the women in my family are brought up with much pampering , independent and respect and treated not differently from the boys. We are given more freedom than anyone can even dream in the subcontinent , we neither ask for it or rebel its given to us... But I fret for Alia ..... shes so young ....
