Kurt Lopes from the Aug 2007 - July 2009 MMV batch winnner of the Toyota National Skill Competition writes.... My name is Kurt Steinner Lopes I decided to join the Mechanic Motor Vehicle course because I was fascinated & interested in learning about automobiles. I always wanted to learn everything about the working of cars, all the various parts and components. Furthermore, I loved to study the new technologies used in modern cars, the way they worked and also to be a smart and witty person to be able to diagnose and do fault finding of these systems, as these systems are not easy to diagnose. I wanted to be a top Toyota technician and SJITI had a road map for me to achieve it. SJITI provided a course called TTEP (Toyota technical education programme)...a technical program started by Toyota in various institutes in India Initially when I joined, I was very nervous looking at the various parts & components in an automobile, engine gear box, suspension, wirings, etc. I was thinking if I would be able to learn, understand and also remember all this. But the teachers at SJITI were very friendly and understanding , they taught us everything from the basic learning from scratch as it was very important. They would try and use various learning methods to teach us so that we could understand any topic without much difficulty . My dream was to work in Toyota, to be a smart Toyota diagnostic technician and also to go to the parent company in Japan. My dreams got fulfilled after I got a job in Toyota during the career day. I worked very hard at Toyota and after three years & was promoted to the position of senior diagnostic technician. Later that year, I took part in the Toyota national skill contest & stood first and won a trip to Japan. Besides our course content, we used to enjoy the extra curriculum activities like sports day and project work organised by the Institute. Also at times our past students used to come and give lectures about the latest automobile systems in the markets and also would share their personal experience about their jobs and the various opportunities available in the market. We also used to get hands on job training at Ekbote auto and Madhuban twice a month which was very helpful. Today, I am a free lancer. I run my own garage & specialise only in the repair of Toyota cars...if it was not for the training I got in SJITI, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve all that I have today in my life My dreams and plans for my future is to run a workshop which will be the best in Mumbai for the repairs for all types of Toyota vehicles I must say that the two years I spent in SJITI were the best two years of my life. The staff in the institute are so friendly. I never had a Principle so friendly and understanding like Amar Sir, he is always smiling and anytime ready to help the students whenever they need him . I got to make many new friend there . I got to learn so much at SJITI. I can never forget the memories that SJITI left in me . SJITI has moulded me into a unique person and I will forever be thankful to SJITI Kurt Lopes
