POEM TYPE : ELERGY WITH THE ENGLISH SONNET . THEME : THE INCIDENT AT BAGA . POEM 1 : OH NO! THEYRE GONE At the bank of Baga, I lowly lie Lyres of violence, psalms of curses Are sung as the flowers die And wither to carmine mosses O flowers! O flowers! run, the rippers are coming To pluck you out and spare the thorns Spread your petals, shed your calyx and keep running These thieves that come, thrust their shears but once Why do you stand and stare to watch your beauty gobbled? For you, poetry is read, songs are sung and tears are shed That cork in your ears, hear you not our song? Are you that troubled? Oh no! What do I see? Where is your head? So youve been gone so long, my warning is in vain Oh flowers, why have you withered? To leave this blood terrain? POEM 2 : BAGA (A SCORE OF HUNDRED) Realisation of a hundred scores gone Bites into one like the harmattan wind . A huge chunk of flesh from the nation torn For with one mindless act Baga is skinned Songs of sorrow make a bloody morrow ; Score of hundreds scattered into fragments . I sulk for they that wont be known -heroes . Unsung and going down amidst laments Salt upon injury after chibok . The pain we bear is not dulled by beer ; With it we must live as happiness mocks And joy , blue life and white lovely peace leer These lives were for us to salvage , you know ?
