Last week we saw Monarch butterflies on the radar here in St. Louis, heres the Des Moines radar picking up on what is thought to be numerous birds coming in for a landing at a local lake. Radar picks up non-precipitation targets more often than you might think. In fact, radar was never invented to track weather. Originally it was used to detect aircraft and was invaluable during World War II. Anyway, in this case its just birds, but its a cool radar loop.
