"Laura had just turned 15 and her parents had given her 60 $ for her birthday. She was all excited because she was going to meet her friends that Saturday to buy herself a pair of shoes she had fallen in love with. As she was about to pay for the shoes, Michael Jackson´s song Heal the World began playing in the background. Suddenly something hit her heart and she said to the shop assistant "I´m sorry I´ve decided not to buy them" and left the shop followed by her astonished friends who asked her why she had changed her mind. She replied with a big smile "I realised that I don´t need those shoes" and she went home. As soon as she was in her bedroom she looked up in the internet what charities Michael Jackson belonged to and found out how she could send that money to one of them. The next day she went to the post office with her 60 $ and a letter she had written, and she excitedly sent them to a charity for children in Michael´s name. Her parents told her how proud they were of her and she felt very proud herself. A week later she received a thank you letter from the charity and she felt happier than ever to have made that decision and very thankful to Michael to have inspired her to help others" "LITTLE stories that made a BIG difference" STORY TWO : Criss "Criss was 10 years old when the doctors diagnosed him with a strange illness that wouldn´t permit him go out of his hospital room unless he wore a special suit and mask. His parents were devastaded but he stayed strong. One day he said to them "don´t be sad and come here" and so did his parents Mark and Dana. "Look at that apple tree over there, they are going to build more houses and they will cut it down. I´ve been seeing that tree since I got here 5 months ago and I would watch the birds fly in and out of it, but in the next days they are going to kill it. How can I complain about myself because I´m ill and I´m getting all the attention when that tree which is so healthy will be cut down for no reason?", he said with tears in his eyes. His parents were amazed about his maturity and courage. When they got home that evening after sadly leaving their little boy behind, they talked about what had happened at the hospital. The next day when they went back they told Criss "sweetheart" said his mother "we know how much you love Michael Jackson and we have heard that not far away from here they are asking people who want to plant a tree in his name. We made a few calls and they are going to transplant that apple tree to that memorial place. We have also asked permission to the hospital and they will arrange it so that you can go there the day it will be planted". The glow and brightness in Criss´ eyes and his smile lit the whole room. A week later Criss and his parents went to that special place and watched how they replanted the apple tree. They watched proudly how a wooden plank was planted also next to the tree bearing this notice "this tree has been planted by Criss in memory of Michael Jackson and all the children in the world". Miraclously Criss´ health began to improve and 3 months later he was going to visit his tree without wearing the special suit. Now he´s at home again and he believes it was the love from his parents and Michael that healed him and since then he calls the tree "The Apple Tree of Life"... Since that first tree, Criss and his family donate one tree every year. They have told their story to lots of friends who have done the same" :)
