Les Miserables to open Anchorage Concert Association’s “Broadway in Anchorage” 2014/2015 series! Broadway’s brilliant musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale of love, loss, honor and redemption, will open Anchorage Concert Association’s “Broadway in Anchorage” series for 13 performances, October 17-26, 2014.Set against the backdrop of pre-revolutionary France, Les Miserables is considered a stage triumph like no other. “We couldn’t be more thrilled,” said ACA Executive Director Jason Hodges. Les Miserables has been a worldwide smash for almost 30 years, and we jumped at the chance to bring it to our stage for this special engagement.” Critics have hailed it as “one of the best musicals of all time,” and no less than “a certified phenomenon; a marvel of musical theatre.”Les Miserables is based on Victor Hugos classic novel about ex-convict Jean Valjean and his attempts to start a new life as he is pursued relentlessly by policeman Javert over decades through the tumult of revolutionary France. This blockbuster musical also showcases a Tony Award-winning score including the songs I Dreamed a Dream, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, A Little Fall of Rain, Master of the House, and On My Own.Since its world premiere in London in 1985, the show has become the world’s longest running musical, translated into 22 languages, won more than 100 theater awards and been seen by more than 60 million people worldwide. Les Miserables features a book by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and music by Claude-Michel Schönberg.In a new production, Anchorage Concert Association is working with Andy Ferrara of Plan-B Entertainment, LLC of Los Angeles, California to produce and direct the musical. The production will involve a cast of over 30 actors and will be complemented by a professional orchestra made up of local musicians, conducted by guest conductor Alby Potts.The first chance to reserve tickets for Les Miserables is when subscriptions go on sale to Anchorage Concert Association 2014/15 season in mid-April. General tickets will go on sale Monday, July 7.
