From Ramey Ko Austin friends, please join me, Interfaith Action of Central Texas - iACT, the Capital Area Progressive Democrats, and many more, in urging our city council members to approve the below resolution at their April 17th meeting, which would direct the City Manager to draft language to amend the fair housing ordinance to prohibit source of income discrimination. This is an opportunity to do the right thing for our neighbors in need, AND it actually promotes affordability! How? In 2013, the Austin Tenants Council found there are >78,000 units in Austin where Section 8 voucher users could afford to live, but only 8,590 of those units will accept a tenant who is using a Section 8 voucher. The remaining 70,000 units refuse to rent to voucher-users. This ordinance would functionally expand the housing market for those having the least choice.
