Look - I sell health insurance and understand it very well. Insurance is about mitigating risk - how much risk do you want to absorb - how much do you want someone else to absorb. In 1960, your parents paid 51% of EVERY single medical bill that hit their threshold. By 1993 the same family only paid 17% of every medical bill - so who paid the balance? The "Mean Ole Insurance Company"!! And they did what as a result of that?? DUH!!! Raised the premium!! Now - allow me to say this - Medicare and Medicare supplements is absolutely the best health plan anywhere in the country!! It is the Cadillac of health plans!! Next January 1, 2014 (compliments of Obamacare) the premium for seniors on their Part B is "projected" (their word not mine) to go from $105 per month to $314 per month. Now again - even at that price it is still the best deal in town. However, for a senior on a fixed income if you take one of their expenses up by 300% the impact is going to be significant!! Moreover, fewer and fewer doctors are willing to accept Medicare patients because of the reduced charges they get paid for services. Enough of the finger pointing - present company included!! We ALL have to pitch in and get our shit in the same sock and get this stupidity under control!! We must - ABSOLUTELY MUST - live within our means!!
