Lovely dance show last night, by a Japanese company at Chulalongkorn University - Evening primrose blossoms for the moon. They quoted Jean Genet - which, so far from home, beneath a bright tropical moon seems to crystallise a lot of my recent wrestlings with audiences and intentions : ) The Angel, for us, is the night coming down on the glaring floor. May your solitude, paradoxically, stand in the limelight and darkness - made of a thousand eyes judging you, fearing and wishing for your fall. Who cares? You shall dance on and in a desert-like solitude, blindfolded with your eyelids stapled if they could be. Nothing - not the applause or laughter - shall bar you from dancing for your own image. You are an artist - alas - you can no longer escape the awful abyss of your own eyes. But it is not about coquetry, selfishness nor self love. Therefore dance alone, pale, livid, anxious to please or displease your image: well it is your image that shall dance for you.
