Luther was so concerned over sin that it became his obsession. He was an Augustinian priest. Augustine in his manuscript confessions, described his guilt of stealing a piece of fruit off a tree then wasting it. He had guilt for this act decades later. After he established a stronger faith it appears that this guilt went away. Luther was obsessed with Satan having many conversations with him. He told him to crawl back into his anus where he belonged. He said he created his doctrine of Sola Fide while sitting on the privy in the tower. It appears that Luthers obsession with the guilt of sin lead to him twisting the scriptures to suit his needs. His thinking is made clear if we examine how he saw the Eucharist. He said who but the devil would put into the mind of man that this IS my body means this symbolizes. He goes on and backs up his claim by saying not one of the church fathers ever denied the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Here is where he creates his dichotomy. Not one of the church fathers ever believed in once saved always saved either.
