MISSING WITHOUT A TRACE: We do not have Bermuda triangle in Nigeria………I don’t even know where that triangle is though I have heard so much about its disappearing mysteries and right now I am not interested in knowing because I am learning to ignore things that add no value to my life. It is one of those wonders of the world though that even scientists the very renowned ones marveled at its wonders. In Nigeria what we have is different phenomenon and occurrences that I have since stopped to wonder and marvel about because they have been too many strange happenings that I am sometimes at my wits end and dead to reasoning because trying to figure out only gives me pangs of headache that may result in migraines. I have a friend from Imo State Ifunaya that her uncle was kidnapped at a filling station in Imo state with his wife in the car watching at the full glare of the day when the sun was at its peak shining brightly two years ago. What I am trying to say is that he was abducted in a broad day light with people looking helplessly not able to do a thing because trying to do something or even dare to help may have had a counter effect on their safety. I happened to have met the abductee in England one of those times he would come on holidays and would stay with Ifunaya and her siblings they were the privileged ones that their parents had or still have a big house at Golders Green i am talking about the nineties. A lot of uncles and aunties used to pass by that house and I used to frequent the house too because she was a good friend and we used to do those things we were doing together in those years things like going to parties, shopping, gossiping about those aunties and uncles that would come and want to turn them to house girls and boys not knowing those indentured servants nonsense only happens in their various villages that there were no staffs in England. I remember how she used to get angry and all reddened up in the face as she is very light skin about how these folks would come from Nigeria liter and dirty the house with all sorts and would eat and leave their plates in the sink. Lol! Uncle Emenike stood out because he was younger than most of them, easy going and could easily relate with us and of course he was very generous all those eating out at My Wu near Chinese restaurant at Little Venice Maida Vale and somehow he liked me because he used to say I am funny and crazy. Lol! The last time I met him again was in 2007 or so when the Russian agent I can’t quite remember his name was poisoned in England in a coffee shop, no one could quite coherently explain how his coffee was laced with some arsenic substance because of some KGB dealings and all dirty accusing fingers were pointed at the KGB, Putin and at that time there was a woman journalist that was killed too in Russia. There were really a lot of sordid and dirty happenings that were going on in Russia at the time and how Russia has somehow moved on from those days or has she? I mean in those days anything could have happened in Russia and no one would say buh! Now instead of passing the baton of those dirty dealings to another European country Russia passed it on to Nigeria. SMDH! I swear there was once upon a time that Russia was worse than what we are seeing in Nigeria today. I think the Russian man’s name was Litvinyenko something like that……..the reason I remember this incident was because I, Ifunaya and uncle Emenike thrashed this case thoroughly until I was tired of him because he was looking at it as some footling and we were fixated on television everyday talking on the phone until the man finally died. Till date that case died naturally and no one was brought to justice. Hmmm! Seriously it is not only in Nigeria that these crazy things happen that everyone is lost in translation about. It is still not right. In 2012 sometime in August I read in the papers and also saw it on television that one permanent secretary in Imo state architect Emenike Ihekwaba was kidnapped I never knew the man was an architect but since out here we must have some letters or some acronym attached to names to give us that oomph! So it does make sense. Lol! I called Ifunaya who is still in London and asked she said yes o! My sister I don’t know how you are coping and can fit in so easily in that god-forsaken country yes it is uncle Emenike that had been kidnapped. His boss Jude Agbaso that was Okorocha’s deputy has just been sacked by that idiot….who is the idiot I asked? Okorocha of course he sacked his deputy because he disagreed with him and now my uncle is missing. I never saw emperor Owelle in those words then maybe now I still do not know but na wa o!. Oh! Uncle Emenike was working with him? He was a permanent secretary she said………you know how stubborn he can be and would not keep shut at the face of injustice she carried on. That was it? I asked …….its Okorocha in Imo state, not some simple man, he is proactive and on top of his game he would not just allow his permanent secretary to just be kidnapped like that and not find out what or where he is, don’t worry I reassured her that kidnapping is rife all across my country that they would soon ask for a ransom and leave him alone in one piece. I called twice again and that was it I probably just assumed that he had been found safe and well. I never bothered again to ask until this morning when I read about it again in Vanguard that till this day the man had not been found dead or alive nor anyone demanded for a ransom at that. Hmmmm! Gosh! I can’t even get Ifunaya on the phone as somehow I have misplaced her number. My question then is a permanent secretary of an administration can just go missing without a trace and the key players in the state sit pretty in their rosy, cosy offices and do nothing and carrying on with life as usual? It is not even that this man is not found but that Okorocha has kept mute and done nothing to alleviate the plight of the poor wife that went out with her husband and just one jiffy moment that the man stepped out of the car he was abducted in her presence and that is it two years down the line now nothing done or heard? Nothing is as annoying as knowing that yes a crime has been committed people would always commit crimes but you going down and sitting wherever knowing that justice would never be served come rain or shine that is my grouse and it is so daunting. That woman may need closure as in if her husband is dead she would need his body to bury and also have a grave she can do the ritual of visiting there to remind herself that ……….there lies the remains of her dear husband and she would have the pleasure of decorating it with the freshly cut flowers made into beautiful bouquet of wreaths, where she can go and weed and clear the grass around the tomb in the anniversaries or in remembrance of all the good times they shared together but now remains just a memory……how anyone can deprive her of this beats me….. Or if he is still alive where is he? I am saying nothing but Okorocha should be ashamed to sit there and see his officials go missing and killed and he does nothing. Agbaso his onetime deputy was sacked by him in circumstances still not clear till date, uncle Emenike kidnapped in circumstances still not known and the reason still a big mystery, a special assistant to the deputy governor was also assassinated not long after the kidnap of uncle Emenike Ihekwaba also this case shrouded under circumstances still not thoroughly investigated and the malefactors brought to justice. Justice that pregnant word that would never give birth in Nigeria I am just saying this that if Okorocha the emperor could sit still and his officials are missing, sacked and killed and he does nothing so what is the fate of ordinary citizens of Nigeria in that state under his watchful eyes? Several deputations to the governor from various people, communities and the family of Emenike Ihekwaba to Governor Okorocha has yielded no positive result nor has this fine gentleman been found dead or alive……………… This is not good………… I have heard where people are kidnapped and release after ransoms were paid just like my friend that was kidnapped at Lekki and the police after collecting some money under the table suddenly found her. Was the police those meant to be paid the ransom I am still wondering well this is Nigeria they say I can’t talk too much. Okay I am done then but one day life would speak louder because it has a way of bringing the wicked to their knees and the bad people to pay their comeuppance. In Soka shrine the ritualists den in Ibadan there were people that were kept there for years and were found still alive. In Ikorodu there were children and an old man found alive in the pastors secret cattery. Maybe one day uncle Emenike Ihekwaba would be found alive I am wishing and I am certain his various families are wishing, praying and hoping. May they get closure either way some day. I must look for Ifunayas number Diaris godoooo!......
