MOTHER NIGERIA @ FIFTY-THREE Happy birthday mother Nigeria, the said giant of Africa Where good percentage of children live in penury and poverty A nation of people with big pseudo-dreams with pseudo-plans So fertile and blessed with good heritage Millions of offspring crowds her rich land Even the gods envies her plumage And the devil made from her a citadel of immorality To refer Nigerians to barbarians Could have been a slip of the tongue perhaps a big mistake How best can you refer to one that spoken without target? And if taken were without precision nor accuracy Even when the main cause of commotion was obvious A near miss is rather preferable, a deliberate miss target Nigeria: ranked among the populous countries but with strange happenings A place where evil men get the loudest applauds Where national awards are bestowed on men of questionable character And good is sabotage for a little twist of fate as excuses for evil One could only imagine how blessed she would have been If only her head was good enough for her whole body Or what is the essence of a head when only the neck benefits Would a neck carry itself without the body? ......Rhetorical perhaps But these, they failed to realise or better, they ignore And believes, they, the neck carries the head Therefore, should share the National cake but at the detriment of her body A fool at forty they say is a fool forever How then can one categorize her majesty at age fifty three? Who only started crawling fourteen years ago? Continually stumbling and fumbling till date even after corrections A deliberate stagnancy in the name of democracy Democracy: a supposed revival and transformation A proposed hope for mother Nigeria whose children has deserted And accused of craftiness, retarded development, poverty n lots Whose cause were quickly attributed to her good bad leaders They see wickedness as an act of kindness They expect an applaud for performing a normal duty I wished they got better names than mammon and demons Show me a rich country and I will tell you what good leadership means Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (U.S. game show) me a struggling nation then I will tell you what lack of resources means But not the case of mother Nigeria Blessed with resources that can feed ten densely populated countries Yet failed woefully to feed her nation who continually struggle to survive Her children, the supposed elephants but feeding lesser than the ants These are the outcome of shared greed among her leaders Circulating wealth and connections within themselves but ignoring others Knowing not that a country is called rich if many of her citizens are rich Not when some individual halt public funds for self-purposes Mindless and heartless people with missions but without a vision A change of leadership was envisaged but rather a change of style was given They only put off their military uniforms and wore a democratic look The same set of people still remains to run the new affairs with old initiatives Making the adoption of the new democratic style a herculean one Truly, one cannot teach an old dog a new trick: it’s a waste of time Looking back, it is not amazing to see how little we’ve achieved Even with their formulated account of stewardship A formulated electoral outcome is worse than a denied franchise I think our kind of democracy should be respelled with a hyphen Demo-Crazy: Demonstration of craze is what we practice here Pandemonium clouds our atmosphere like an ever burning flame We the citizens react like the situation should be stable If it is not militant it would be boko-haram, OPC, bakassi or kidnappers If the govt hospitals are not striking then ASUU, NASU, NLC or NUPENG will How would federal government speedily yield to a strike’s request? When the strike never affect their children who school and based abroad Only a shameless wealthy man eats the soup of a fellow wealthy man’s wife When the wife strives and cries for lack of money to make soup The churches: the supposed messiah to solve our educational crises Little did we know that the churches has only come to rescue the rich only Leaving the poor and average earners to continue suffering the sessional strikes We poised to building a nation where peace and justice shall reign Yet the ‘Executhieves, judisharing and legislooters’ our supposed leaders Continually thief, share and loot funds meant to develop the nation Where President and Governors believes if there should be a project at all Then, it must start from their community even when it is not strategically ok In their wisdom, they implement policies as if we don’t deserve the best They treats us like the only thing they needs from us is our vote not our voice Only if our government can see us as fellow compatriots Then they will realize the needs for stability in every sector If Nigeria must be genuinely celebrated Then we must embrace political circumcision with true democracy We must love, share and care for our fellow compatriots Irrespective of the ethnic group- Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo We must shun riots, kidnapping, militancy, evil sects, bribery and corruptions We must inculcate the act of discipline and justice Judgement of the man who steals billions should no longer take infinity years Let good instinct, equity, ethics, ergonomics and heritage guide our doings God help us as we shamelessly flag our independence @ 53
