MUVHANGO YESTERDAY: ARE WE A VIOLENT SOCIETY? So when we - TopicsExpress

MUVHANGO YESTERDAY: ARE WE A VIOLENT SOCIETY? So when we planned yesterdays episode, we had agreed that we need a song that Thandaza and Ranthumeng can sing, that will bring them closer to the viewers. This was inspired by the reaction of the viewers to their wedding when they sang My Soul Loves Only You, and viewers were touched. We wanted a jazzy love song that would suite Thandaza (Sindi Dlathus) voice and also be comfortable for Ranthu (Brian Themba)/. We all agreed that Mirriam Makebas all time classic, Woza Sithandwa, would be that song. Done settled. We all agreed it will work. Thandaza will do an end of year party at her house (20years of democracy sounded better, and so it was) and then in the middle of the party Thandaza and Ranthu would then burst into song. Why not bring in a group of young musicians with violins? Great idea. our viewers will be happy. We then had to factor in the current stories, but we did not want to be serious. Pat and Thuli would have just reconciled, but we did not want to go to that heavy conflict. Teboho is in jail and Shonisani would have just cemented Tebohos fate. So that is heavy enough. Why not have a cat fight? Wow! another great idea. We have never seen Matshediso and Thuli go for each other, Voila! There it is, wait a second, Nonny will also be there, she will not just sit idly by while Matshediso smacks her sister. Nonny will definitely go and sort Matshediso out. Done. However, the reaction from the majority of our viewers seems to be concentrating more on the catfight than on the other aspects of the episode. Yes they are loving Thandaza and Ranthumengs singing, but the cat fight seems to be the reason why we are trending for such a long time... Are we a violent society? Are we a society that revels in humans at war with each other? what does this say about our psychie as a nation? I have noticed a disturbing trend with our soapies, when we have street fights and scenes that depict the ugly side of our people the viewers seem to light up. We have had a few episodes, whether it is Mampho and Malume Themba, or Mukondeleli and vho-Masindi, going after each other, we seem to get a strange approval from our viewers. Soapies have a responsibility to repair the fabric of life for our people. We need to emphasize issues of moral regeneration even more. and we at Word Of Mouth Pictures are committed to a society were the moral values of a society are put above any small inconsequential differences. We do not believe that violence is a solution,. and it is important for us to state that whenever there are scenes like yesterdays, they are not meant for people to derive negative lessons, but they are small elements of drama that are adding a spice, not a norm! Muvhango as a production is committed to helping in the repairing of the fabric of life!
