MYTH: Gallup Voices for Change are disgruntled ex-employees - TopicsExpress

MYTH: Gallup Voices for Change are disgruntled ex-employees trying to exorcise ghosts of past RMCH administrators with the current administration who had nothing to do with the past. TRUTH: Yes many are ex-employees, but all left on good terms. RMCH, or at least the people who directly supervised us, were very good to us. What we didnt like however was being witness to administrative indiscretions and being unable to disclose it as it was. If anyone can remember several years ago there were administrators who were eventually prosecuted for financial improprieties and of course the memory is still fresh from the Laudermilch debaucle. How do you think these administrators moved from elevated leadership to shameful exits over the years? They were immune to the criticism leveled by employees because they were insulated by the RMCH Board of Directors. Had the Board been willing to listen or examine the reports of what was happening, perhaps they would have been able to stop the financial hemorrhages and collateral human damage that occurred before we all left. But then again, maybe not. Maybe they would have continued to support the CEO et. al--just like is being done with this administration--all the while seemingly ignoring very pertinent questions and concerns being raised by many different people. We have no axe to grind other than the disparities in job castes and lack of validating employee credibility. We actually had as much hope as the Board that maybe Mr. Mousa could rescue us. We still would be supportive if we didnt directly know the people who are being mistreated by this administration. Those living in the administrative bubble dont experience the inequities of the working class, so therefore there is no problem thats conveyed to the Board. The RMCH CEOs have had the benefit of generating their own report cards on how they are performing their job, and it is filled with supportive statistics and reports which add to their credibility. However, reports and numbers can be manipulated to support any agenda. What is just as important to us though, is what is NOT being discussed. This is where we strive to jump in. Our motivation is knowing that the hospital is not a building held together with mortar and bricks, instead--it is the people who create that bond. It is about caring enough to actually address employees by their names--no matter what their title may be--and our genuine concern regarding the wellbeing of the RMCH housekeepers, maintenance crews, kitchen staff, nurses and nurses aids, lab and radiology staff, business office and switchboard staff that makes us ask the difficult questions and step up to voice our concerns to the community. These people are real to us, can this administration or Board of Directors say the same without stepping outside their circles? Having worked side by side, knowing these people (and their character) is what disturbs us so much as we listen to their accounts of the events happening at RMCH on a daily basis. We dont question the veracity or sincerity of these accounts and have shared them with you, the citizens of Gallup, hoping for no more new stories. Unfortunately, there are more. Five more long term employees were laid off on Friday. they were told by EMAIL they no longer had a job according to Mousas report in the paper. It is our understanding they are going to be replaced with more imports from outside of Gallup from the same agency that brought us Philip Hagar with his outrageous salary(his own words, not mine, heard by my own ears). Why? We want to know how this sort of thing is justified and how is it allowed by the powers that be? Should Mousa have free reign over hiring and dismissals without Board knowledge or approval at this point in time given what all weve heard? These are not rhetorical questions, we really want to know and hear from people at the hospital who can explain the thought processes that make this sort of thing right. This calls to mind a quote by Edmund Burke, The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing. Never has this quote meant more to us than it does right now. Good people of Gallup, stand up and say NO MORE”. Everything in life carries risk. Some may be fearful of speaking up, but there is greater risk of greater cost if apathy and fear prevail. Our hospital is at stake and we do not have years for this scenario to play out. Unfortunately, there is a point of no return and without community support, we may get there sooner than later. We need your voices now more than ever before. There are several ways you can do this: contact the board members and county commissioners and ask that this administration be held accountable; sign the on-line petition and get others to sign; ATTEND THE COMMUNITY FORUM TOMORROW NIGHT and bring others with you and participate, speak up. Senator Munoz has given us a great opportunity to join in. Please don’t let it pass.
