Mama Bev and the Dogs Bollocks... The latest edition of Dogs Today tells the bizarre tale of a Bearded Collie discovered to be packing a false testicle. The show dog had enough success to be placed at Crufts. Its vet, however, was obviously more thorough than the show judges and was concerned about one testicle being rather small and hard. Further examination revealed the dogs second (or is that third) testicle retained within its body. Mother Beverly wonders if a modern, more realistic nuticle would have remained undetected with potentially life threatening consequences for the poor dog. Gossip Hound shares her concerns but also wonders who preformed the operation to insert the falsie... surely not a qualified vet. Is cosmetic surgery the next big scandal waiting to hit the show scene? Will nose jobs, ear jobs and the insertion of a bit silicone here and there become as acceptable as the use of chalk and a little bit of hairspray?? Gossip Hound hopes well reject this craziness and embrace more natural showing. While were at it we should, perhaps, look again at the whole issue of showing neutered dogs. Shows these days are not really there to assess breeding stock... its high time we changed our customs and practices to reflect this. Gossip Hound... watching them, watching us
