Match Report Laidley U13/14 Tigers The Laidley U13/14 Tigers played the Harristown Hawks in Oakey on Wednesday night. The lead up and decision to why this match was played at all was somewhat comical. The only thing that can be said is “watch this space”. Below is a brief insight. The Laidley U13/14 Tigers were moved from the B Grade competition into the A Grade competition at the half way point of the season by Football Toowoomba. The reasons given were that we had some exceptional results and the team need to be in A Grade. With no option other than getting on with the job of playing soccer, we played some entertaining games and won about 3 matches in A Grade. Football Toowoomba assured us that we would take our points from B Grade across into A Grade with us, this resulted in the Tigers finishing 3rd ladder. All of a sudden we were forced into playing off for a position in the top four, a position that we already had. The reason given was that we were displacing a team that had been in A Grade all year, hence the game on Wednesday night.Initially the game on Wednesday was scheduled to be played in Toowoomba at the home found of the Hawks at Harristown, this changed due to the weather and the ground being unsafe after the rain. The question was asked, why we can’t move the match to Laidley, the answer came back with “Oakey or forfeit”. Once again, “watch this space”. I must thank all of the parents and siblings of this great team for the short notice reaction to assembling the team with less than an hour’s notice in Toowoomba. From there we all headed in convoy to a ground that we had never been to.We all arrived in Oakey at approximately 6.35pm, we eventually kicked off just on 7pm. The ground was not great and the lighting was far from exceptional. After all of the disruptive lead up, the Tigers played the best game of the year. The Tigers lead all of the way and the scores were locked at 2-2 at the break. This game could have gone either way but as fortune would have it the Hawks squeezed a goal inside of the last two minutes to snatch the game from a very gallant group of kids. Final score was 3-2 to the Hawks. As the coach, I was very proud of the year in general and for the enormous effort from everyone involved in this team. To be able to have only 90 minutes’ notice that we had to travel to Oakey, and to still make it, warm up and be the better team on the night, well done to everyone. Andrew
