Monday of the First week of Lent. Reflections from Wondrous - TopicsExpress

Monday of the First week of Lent. Reflections from Wondrous Encounters: Scripture for Lent, by Richard Rohr Quotes that jump out at me: “Leviticus begins with the clear goals and boundaries that are necessary of the sake of a moral and a religious society, and the tangent is set in motion with the final co-called “Golden Rule”. “Golden Rule” - this all leads and develops to create the Jesus phenomenon, and what could week be called Jesus’ “commandments,” which go far beyond mere boundary-keeping to actually moving beyond all boundaries to take care of those who did not make it, do not fit in, the outsider, the criminal, the vulnerable, and the weak. “You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.” The final leap that Jesus makes is even more astounding. He not only creates a moral equivalence between me and my neighbor, but finally between my neighbor and God! “What we to others, even the least of the others, we do to God, he says?! It is almost to much to comprehend and surely leaves all of us among the goats. This whole reading reminds me of the Dorothy Days saying,“I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.” Remember that these were all created in an effort or form community, in an attempt to be guidelines for how we are called to treat each other. Gods wisdom is infinite and everlasting. We continue to struggle with the very depth of who we are called to be. What things jump out to you?
