Monday’s ‘Off the Beaten Track’ begins with a terrific early single from Aztec Camera, amply demonstrating the young Roddy Frame’s gifts as a songwriter were evident from the outset. A single of a more recent vintage follows from the consistently excellent Public Service Broadcasting. The show will also feature a selection of the artists recently announced for this year’s WOMAD festival, which takes place at Charlton Park in Malmesbury 24th – 27th July. Expect great tracks from arresting British soul singer Alice Russell, Ethio-jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke, revered folk singer and guitar maestro Martin Simpson as well as captivating Sami musician Mari Boine. I shall also be finding time for fabulous new releases by Tinariwen and Fiona Hunter. Hope you can join me at 6pm on Monday!
