My #Yoga. Hmm. Theres so many representations of yoga now. The diversity can be a little confusing though. We have schools and then schools of thought and then schools of individuals who are just doing their own thang. And why not. Putting the purist sentiments aside for a moment though ... It really doesnt matter where I qualified to teach Hatha Yoga. I teach what I practice. I teach what I practice and that is: 1. Breathing baby! Woah. Its taken for granted. Its such a massive and undermined resource. We forget about it. And then we wonder why were in such a state?! 2. Gentle body awareness. What are your limbs saying? How many different directions does it feel comfortable to stretch and extend in. Lets try these things out and build on your vocabulary so you can form your own practice. At home. When you realise youre not breathing so well and there is tightness in your body. 3. No chanting ... JUST moaning! I love a good moan. Moaning out an exhale releases so much pressure. And its far more healthy to do it in an intentional way on your own rather than AT someone during a difficult conversation or just whilst youre moving around in life getting all tight and right about something going on in your life. Just sit down in one of many comfortable positions and get into your breath ... Then release the moan and the groan. 4. Use the wall. I havent started with masses of strength especially in the upper body but using the wall (even as a teacher) has allowed me to absolutely attempt and practice all those fancy inversions (head and hand stands etc). I use the wall or sofa or something to get my legs higher than my head and then on elbows or hands, balance for as long as you can. The repetition builds strength. The blood circulation is awesome for your brain and head function. And its just fun to see things from a different perspective. 5. Strengthening not slimming. I have Osteoporosis and I am more concerned with building strength to build strong bones and muscles. Yoga has been tremendous for my progress along with a an approach to eating and drinking and being that can cultivate greater health for me. But even before I had this diagnosis, the idea of approaching any bodywork with the desire to SLIM is unsustainable to me. Because then my bodywork is attached to ego as opposed to SELF. On that note. Im all about SELF. Ways to come back to us. Our altar. Our inner book. Our SELF. In and amongst all thats going on in our lives. When we return to SELF we have more to give. Follow my YouTube channel for lots more about me, what I write about and what I share. Yoga teachings coming in the new year :) #Peace #Calm #Creativity and #Gratitude guys.
