My ancestors Dr. John Woodson and his wife Sarah landed at Jamestown, VA in 1619 and lived across the James River at a place called Fleur de Hundred, now in Prince George County. One evening the Doctor was coming home and was killed by Indians feet away from his house. The story goes that the attack was led by Chief Opechancano during the Indian Uprising in 1622. Dr. John Woodson’s wife and kids and another man name Ligon (an immigrant who they taken in) was the house when the Indians attack them... Legion killed 7 Indians with the eight foot long rifle and Sarah killed several Indians who were coming down the chimney with boiling water and a roasting spit, she had hidden her to sons John Woodson, (my ancestor) and Robert in a tub and in a potato pit, they were nicknamed Potato Hole and Tub” when the story was told. The wife of President James Madison & Outlaw Jesse (Woodson) James also share these American ancestors.
