My community is in a perilous state! If a vast majority of our youth are subjected to or restricted to poor housing, poor education, poor parenting, poor diets & poor hospitals, how in the hell are we supposed to get rich?...Entertainment? Thats usually the only way out for low income, inner city youths. So when Michelle Obama, who I absolutely love, says ...children need to go out dream of being lawyers, doctors & teachers instead sitting on the couch playing video games dreaming of being ballers or rappers kinda rubs me the wrong way; it sounds good in theory but too often those dreams are extremely lofty & unrealistic considering the circumstances of a lot of these youths, entertainment is sometimes the ONLY way out! Laziness & lack of ambition should not be rewarded; but more often than not, demotivation & lack of ambition are not whats hindering these youths. The proverbial deck is stacked against them & its actually worse than it was even 20yrs ago! This is an epidemic! There are generations of minority men who grew up without a father, no guidance or support; no male role models besides Bill Cosby or Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince. Very quickly, once they turn off the TV, those same youths will inevitably gravitate to the streets, who by the way has a stellar track record for turning boys into men; men who have little to no respect for women or themselves, who have no concept of family or hard work, everything becomes get rich quick or self medicating to numb the pain of despair & the realization that other options no longer exist! Also young girls are being transformed into feeble minded women with no idea how to cook, raise a child or how a man is really supposed to treat a woman. Theyd rather be Nicki Minaj than Claire Huxtable! Too many young girls are more infatuated with Red Bottoms and twerking than Double Dutch and Barbie dolls. Young minorities are being jailed & more prisons are being built at an alarming rate. The state of Indiana now builds prisons based on the failing report cards of young black males in the 3RD GRADE!!!!!! Thats unspeakable! At the end of the day its up to us to properly educate, inform & guide our youth even if you have no kids; each one, teach one!! Children are sponges with far more mental aptitude than we give them credit for & are extremely resilient. Giving the ideal circumstances a majority of these children would be success stories!! We have to vote to get ppl who look like us & intent on properly representing us in office(Congress, Senate & locally; not Presidential) to effectively make change. Money being spent on useless wars & fighter jets that will never be used can be allocated to some of these broken inner city communities. It starts at the roots, we need educational programs in those communities! How many minority youths are taught how to save, taught the value of good credit, how to balance a check book, how to invest or the difference between principles & interests or assets & liabilities?...not many that I know! Its time to help ourselves & take an active role in our childrens lives! You cant control what you cant control but if you drop the ball on the things you can control you have no one to blame but yourself....But I digress; its only Saturday, too early to take yall to church. #KnowledgeIsPower
