My horoscope said this might be a frustrating day with lots of stumbling blocks and dammit, unlike the days when it prophesies that I will come into money or meet a tall handsome stranger, it was right. Ive been basically on night shift for awhile trying to finish my book, and the laundry had been piling up. I ignored it because the washing machine leaked the last time I used it and I didnt want to do it in the middle of the night lest there be a plumbing emergency. So I did it today and it not only leaked but it whined and overheated and basically, I think the trusty Maytag has gone to the happy washing ground. So now I have one load of wet laundry half finished and two more loads of dry. One thing I always loved about Fairbanks, Alaska, was any time you got in that kind of a bind, there were always lots of people you could ask for help and not feel weird, since so many of my friends had spent at least one winter in half-built cabins or tents. I think I have to wait till next week when a smidge more money is coming and try to carve out enough to get quarters for the laundromat. Sigh. Then try to locate another working washing machine. Preferably free . Sigh. The book is creeping along too, though Im working on improving what seemed to be a scene that could have been livelier. I did get in a little walk down at Hudson Point on this nice mild sunny day. Reading a new book by Mark Sublette, who writes about the SW but not about Navajo police or FBI. He writes about an art dealer from Santa Fe who is involved with the world of Navajo and Pueblo artists, weavers and in this book, jewelers. Part of it even takes place at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Ive never been able to go but beady friends of mine have and say its nirvana. So Im enjoying reading about it.
