NATIONAL TRAFFIC ALERT FROM THE TENNESSEE TRUCKING ASSOCIATION MAJOR INCIDENT IMPACTS I-65 SOUTH OF NASHVILLE A tanker accident on I-65 southbound at mile marker 61 occurred at around 3:40 am this morning. This area is about 20 miles south of downtown Nashville. The driver of the tanker perished in the accident. It shut down both directions of Interstate 65 and it cause severe damage to both an existing bridge and to a new bridge that was under construction. As of 2 pm CDT Friday afternoon the NB lanes of I-65 have reopened but SB is closed and will remain closed until Monday afternoon at the earliest. Crews are going to do demolition on the bridges beginning at 6 am SATURDAY MORNING and plan to remove all the debris from the northbound lanes by 6 am on Monday morning. The plan is to have the debris removed from the southbound lanes by 2 pm Monday afternoon. After that is removed, both north and south bound lanes will be open.
