NEWS FROM BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY EVENT ORGANIZER: Jake Smulley MEDIA CONTACT: Tim Long - email @ [email protected] Facebook Page: facebook/bigdiamondspeedway Website: bigdspeedway FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WITH OUR THANKS. ______________________________________________________ BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY LOOKS TO DRAW LARGE FIELD OF SPORTSMAN FOR FAYASH MEMORIAL MINERSVILLE, PA - June 17th, 2014 We are less than 72 hours away from the most anticipated Sportsman race of the year at Big Diamond Speedway - the 2nd annual Andy Fayash Memorial. Last years event drew 38 USS Achey Sportsman cars to race for the $1,570 winners share, and this year looks even more promising. The event is advertised as an open draw/home track rules event, meaning there should be no reason for drivers from Grandview, New Egypt, Penn Can, Five Mile Point, and Bridgeport not to attend this event. All Sportsman cars from other speedways are welcome to compete with their home track rules package. Only Hoosier D300 or harder tires and American Racer 44 or harder (Left Rear) and 48 or harder (Right Rear) are legal for this event. Steel or aluminum wheels are legal. Regular body style or sail panels are legal. The only mandatory requirements are VP Racing Fuel must be used and transponders must be used. Heat races will be lined up via luck of the draw. No need to be a track regular on this night - everyone in the Sportsman division will be on a level playing field when it comes time to draw for the always important qualifying heat starting position. Those cars that finish in a redraw spot in their heat will pick again for their feature starting spot. The number of cars in the redraw will be determined by the number of heat races required. With Grandview Speedway giving the Sportsman division off this week due to the URC Sprint event at the track, a number of top competitors from the Berks County oval are expected to compete in this special event. This years race is set for 30 laps for $3,000 to win and $157 to take the green as long as 26 or more cars sign in for competition. If less than 26 cars compete, the winners share is still an impressive $1,570 to win. Also included in the nights events will be a special 5 lap cash dash with a total purse of $500 courtesy of Mike Radocha. Complete details of the cash dash will be disclosed after the feature event is complete on Friday evening, but we can tell you the winner of the 5 lap event will take home $298, with 2nd place receiving $157 and 3rd getting $45 for their 5 laps of work. Kims Kreations Lettering and Apparel will be presenting the winner a beautiful, custom made, neon clock. Kims Kreations will also be providing the hard luck award for a feature event driver whos night doesnt go quite as planned. Grandstand general admission for this race is $20.00 per person. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit participation fees will be $30.00 for members and $40.00 for non-members. This is a very special night at the track in honor of a great man and great racer that left us much too soon. We hope every comes out to support this wonderful evening of racing. Also on the card that night will be the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Slifko Fabrication Services Late Models, and Savage 61 Roadrunners. Another exciting event just around the corner is the return of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series to Big Diamond Speedway. This race, scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th, will be the first appearance of the World of Outlaw Late Models at Big Diamond since June 24th, 2009 when Josh Richards took home the victory in the Coal Country 40 feature event. This years Diamond Shines 40 pays $8,000 to win and $600 just to take the green in the feature event. Current series point leader and four time winner Darrell Lanigan leads the World of Outlaw contingent into town, but track regulars Scott Haus, Billy Wampler, Sean Merkel, and a host of others will do their very best to defend their home turf. Also expected to be on hand are Pennsylvanias own Rick Eckert and Chub Frank, along with Late Model and Modified driving star Tim McCreadie. A strong local turnout of Late Model talent is also expected to challenge for the top prize. Hoosier 1300 1325 and 1450 tires along with American Racer 44 and 53 tires will be the only compounds allowed for this event. The Savage 61 Roadrunners will also be in action in a 20 lap points event. Grandstand general admission will be $30.00, with kids 12 and under free. Pit participation fees will be $35 for Big Diamond Speedway and World of Outlaw members, and $40 for non-members. Pit gates open at 4:00 PM, and grandstand gates open at 5:00 PM. Warm-ups are set for 7:30 PM will time trials to begin immediately following warm-ups.
