NITW - DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS Suggestions from Alumni on or before 16th Nov. 2014 1.0 Introduction Our institute would like to introduce the Distinguished Alumnus Award program to honour outstanding former students and to celebrate their achievements. The purpose of the Distinguished Alumni Award is to recognize the institute’s alumni, who have made significant contributions to the society. The Distinguished Alumnus Award does more than honour its recipients. These awards are given for outstanding achievement and no compromises diminishing the significance of the awards will be made. The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented on Institute Alumni Day (this year on 26th December 2014), and cannot be conferred in absentia. Each award includes citation and a certificate. The following award categories and criteria are proposed. We request all the alumni to go through the contents and offer your suggestions on or before 16th November 2014. Nominations for these awards will be called for on 18th November 2014. Please send all your suggestions to: [email protected]. 2.0 Award Categories Recipients will be accomplished in the four distinct areas: 1. Professional Achievement, 2. Service to Society, 3. Service and Support to NIT Warangal, and 4. Young Alumni Professional Achievement. Details of these awards are provided below. 2.1 Category A: Distinguished Alumni Professional Achievement Award (DAPAA) The Distinguished Alumni Professional Achievement Award recognizes an alumnus/alumna whose accomplishments and contributions have had the broadest impact and positive effect on mankind. Alumni should have exceptional accomplishment in his chosen professional field. Recipients of this award are celebrated for going beyond their successful vocation and bringing benefit to the universal community and for scientific and technological advancement. This Award is intended to honour alumni whose accomplishments and contributions are of national and/or international significance, and/or have had a seminal or transformative impact on their field of endeavour. 2.2 Category B: Distinguished Alumni Public Service Award (DAPSA) The Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service is presented annually to an alumnus/alumna with superior service in the public sector or a sustained pattern of volunteer service in the community, or service to the arts, that has positively represented the Institute and fellow citizens. He should have demonstrated either outstanding success in a career in the public service or extraordinary contributions in the charitable, non-profit, or civic arena. Such achievement may include: o Consistent long-term achievement in a career in the public service o Use of influence and effectiveness in the business world to support a pursuit in public service Public Service can include, but not is limited to public administration, leadership, membership or support of civic organizations, charitable organizations, religious organizations, or other community related volunteer or financial support. 2.3 Category C: Distinguished Alumni Volunteer Service Award (DAVSA) The Distinguished Alumni Award fir Volunteer Service is presented annually to an alumnus/alumna of NIT Warangal based upon a significant pattern of volunteer service to the NITW that has positively represented the NIT Warangal and its mission. Recipients have been actively engaged in volunteer work on behalf of the NIT Warangal. He should have carried out exceptional service in support of the advancement and continued excellence of NIT Warangal and the NIT Warangal Alumni Association. Long-term loyalty and dedication are key ingredients of these very special volunteers. Volunteer Service to the Institute can include, but not is limited to involvement with Institute or department committees, Alumni Association support, participation and membership, financial contributions, participation in Institute programs, teaching at the Institute, other volunteer membership, leadership or service. Normally an alumnus/alumna who has received the Distinguished Alumnus Professional Achievement Award / Distinguished Alumni Public Service Award / Distinguished Young Alumni Achievement Award shall not be considered for Distinguished Service Award within a period of 5 years. 2.4 Category D: Distinguished Young Alumni Professional Achievement Award (DYAPAA) The Young Alumni Award is presented to an alumnus who has made outstanding contributions in his/her professional life and has not yet achieved the age of 35. This award is based upon a significant record of career achievement and a promise for future professional success. Recipients have been acknowledged by their peers for their outstanding work in their chosen field of endeavour. 3.0 SELECTION CRITERIA 3.1 Eligibility All the former students, who have been enrolled in a regular course of study at RECW / NITW, are eligible for these awards. Alumni should have completed at least 20 years of service after graduation from NIT Warangal Former students may be nominated posthumously. The following alumni are not eligible to be nominated for a Distinguished Alumni Award: o Former students employed by the NITW are not eligible during their term of employment. o Office bearers of the NITW Alumni Association and NITW Foundation are not eligible during their term of service. o Alumni holding political office at a local, state or national level; o Alumni who currently hold or have held political office within three years of the date of the close of nominations; o Members of the Selection Committee; Members of the selection committee may not submit nominations, nor may they act as referee to a nomination. 3.2 Method of Nomination Nominations may be made for a Distinguished Alumnus Award / Young Alumni Professional Achievement Award by any of the following individuals or groups: Any member of The NITWAA; Any member of the NITW administration, faculty or staff; Any NITW former student; Nominations will be accepted using the following guidelines: 1. The NITW provides an Award Nomination Form online at nitw.ac.in 2. In addition to completing and submitting the Award Nomination Form, nominators are encouraged to provide supporting items that further distinguish the nominee. Such items include, but are not limited to: Letter of nomination written by the nominator Two letters of support from non-family members that specifically address the criteria Current biography or curriculum vitae for the individual Newspaper and magazine articles / profiles / Personal stories Professional honours, Awards or certificates of achievement / commendations Membership/leadership in professional organizations, Publications, or noteworthy special work Other items of interest In case of Distinguished Alumni Volunteer Service Award (DAVSA), record of contributions to NIT Warangal Community is in one or more of the following: Service to the Alumni Chapters/Foundations and tangible achievements made Alumni-related events organized by the nominee, capacity, number of participants in each, tangible outcome, if any etc. Contributions to fund-raising for NIT Warangal Teaching courses at NIT Warangal as Adjunct Faculty Joint research collaboration with the faculty of the Institute Mentoring of students/faculty in innovation and entrepreneurial ventures Any other service to the NIT Warangal Community 3. One nomination per individual will be considered. 4. Nomination forms will be held for each individual and considered for the award for a period of three years (or until they reach 35 years of age, whichever comes first in case of Young Alumni Professional Achievement Award). If an individual is not selected for the award, his or her Award Nomination Form may be updated and renewed by the original or other appropriate nominator for consideration in a subsequent year. The Office of Dean (International Relations and Alumni Affairs) will contact nominators for annual renewals. 5. No limitation will be placed on the total number of nominations accepted for consideration. 6. The name of the nominator will not be disclosed. 3.3 Method of Award Recipient Selection The NITW will use the following guidelines for the Award Recipient Selection: The DAA Selection Committee, as approved by the BOG, NITW, consists of the following members. Director - Chairman Nominee of BOG - Member An Eminent Scientist - Member An Eminent Industrialist - Member An Eminent Academician/Senior Faculty Member - Member President, NITWAA - Member Dean (IRAA) - Convener The Alumni Awards Selection Committee is asked to make every effort to select recipients of the highest calibre, giving equal consideration to all who have achieved excellence in their respective fields. The office of Dean (IRAA) will collect submitted nominations which will be reviewed and validated. The Dean (IRAA) will submit the nominations to the committee in advance of the Selection Committee meeting. Maximum of 12 recipients may be selected annually for Distinguished Alumni Awards. The BOG must approve additional recipients. @@@@@
