*******************NOT A CHICKEN REPORT****************** Ive had several people ask me why I havent posted a Chicken Report lately. Well, I have a very good excuse. My refrigerator quit cooling. Thats not a good thing in August. Well, its never a good thing, but in August its particularly brutal. It started with the refrigerator part not feeling as cool as it should. I wrote it off to the August heat because I didnt want to think about buying another one. Then one day I went to pour myself a glass of milk and it was chunky. I dont know about you, but chunky milk is not on my list of delicacies. I dont like sushi, either, but thats another story. So I posted a request on Kerrville Recycle: Does anybody have a refrigerator gathering dust? One lady answered, saying she didnt have one but she gave me some suggestions on what to do about mine. That inspired me to go to Yahoo Answers. On Yahoo Answers, I found a post with step-by-step instructions on what to do about it. The guy who wrote the post had been an appliance repairman for 12 years, so I figured he knew what he was talking about. He said unplug it and let it defrost for 24 hours. He said the problem was most likely ice buildup in the vents between the freezer and refrigerator. So I unplugged it. And I figured that while I had it empty, I might as well scrub it. So I did that. And as I was doing that, I hoped that all my scrubbing was not in vain. I couldnt wait 24 hours. I was too impatient. I know my friends will find that hard to believe, but its true. I got out the blow drier and pointed that sucker in every vent I could find. When no more water came out of the drain pipe, I figured I was close enough to done. So I plugged it back in, even though it had only been 18 hours. The compressor kicked in. And the fan started blowing cool air to the refrigerator part. I filled the ice trays and put them in the freezer. It cooled a little but I was still worried about it. It probably would have cooled faster if I hadnt checked the thermometer so often, but as I said, I am impatient. When I went to bed last night, the temperature was 50 degrees in the refrigerator and ice particles were starting to form in the ice trays in the freezer. I woke up during the night and was tempted to come check it, but I resisted. This morning I stumbled in to the kitchen and checked-----it was 42 degrees in there!!!! Hooray!!! The temperature has dropped all day and right now it 38 degrees in my refrigerator. Yea!!!!! No repair bill!!!! No new refrigerator!!! So thats the reason yall havent gotten a Chicken Report in a while. Tomorrow morning Ill go do crafting at the church. Maybe Saturday or Sunday I can get to it. Right now Im going to go gather eggs.
