Namazee Hospital is the largest leading and best well-equipped hospital in Iran (or Middle East) established by Mohammad Namazee in 1950. After its establishment, American specialists were dispatched to Shiraz for training Iranian staff and developing the center. It is also worth mentioning that Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor of President Barack Obama, was born in Shiraz and her father, James E. Bowman, was one of the American specialists who moved to Iran to help found Nemazee Hospital and became chair of pathology at this hospital. After Islamic revolution of 1978, officials from Mississippi Delta, United States, reached out to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) in 2009 for advice to adopt healthcare model to suit Mississippi rural areas. Representatives were exchanged between SUMS and Jackson State University. Mississippi has always looked for new cost-effective methods to provide healthcare services for urban and rural areas.
