Never mind the X Factor - Ballina Arts Centre has the Culture Factor! Friday 20th September sees the return of Culture Night – the annual nationwide celebration of arts and culture whereby cultural organisations and institutions stay open late into the night, presenting a wide-ranging array of events and activities for all to enjoy. From 6.30 to 10pm, Ballina Arts Centre will be giving an opportunity to all to participate in this year’s Culture Night with an impressive array of exciting events for all ages and tastes. One of the highlights of this year’s programme will be the Niamh O’Malley exhibition which runs throughout September so don’t miss this opportunity to see the work of one of Ireland’s prominent artists. In what has become an annual feature of Culture Night, Ballina Arts Centre is once again showcasing the music of a number of young local bands, who are part of the Music Generation Mayo Youth Music Hub. Recorded music will be played in public areas throughout the building using the integrated sound system. Information sheets will provide the details. For all budding artistes of any kind, Ballina Arts Centre is giving the public the opportunity to participate in an evening of improvised spontaneous theatre pieces. These pieces can include music, dance, mime, stand-up comedy... (anything goes within the boundaries of good taste!). Anybody who wishes to participate can book themselves in on the night, or bookings can be made now by contacting Ballina Arts Centre. Everybody who visits Ballina Arts Centre on the night will be encouraged to participate in the Online Photographic Self-Portrait exhibition. Visitors can take a photo of themselves (or ‘Selfies’ as they are known), and that image will then be uploaded the photos onto the Ballina Arts Centre Facebook page, creating an online ‘exhibition’ of the self-portraits. Imaginative approaches will be encouraged and the ‘best’ pics will win exciting prizes. All Culture Night activities at Ballina Arts Centre are free and for more information contact the venue.
