News | CIOL Bureau SAN FRANSICO, USA: Apple has just posted record revenues and sales, but it has no intention of slowing down. In the earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed to Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster that his company planned on introducing new product categories in 2014. When Munster enquired about the introduction of new product categories in 2014, Cook replied Yes, absolutely. No change. For the last two years there have been rumours about Apple launching a television and a smartwatch, dubbed the iTV and the iWatch. These products have not seen the light of day, but have buoyed other tech companies like Samsung to venture into these product categories. The iTV could be more of a tricky proposition as Apple needs to strike deals with content providers. Recent reports about the next generation iPhone also suggest that Apple is dabbling with a larger screen sizes which could imply that Apple may end up introducing a phablet of its own, to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note. All in all, 2014, could after all be the year were Apple reinvents the wheel in a new product category. The last time Apple entered a new product category was back in 2010, when it introduced the iPad and re-invented the tablet market.
