Nigeria High Commission, SLMA, Others Boost Fight Against Ebola By State House Communications Unit As government continues to coordinate and engender the required support in the fight against Ebola, President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma on Tuesday 23rd September received at State House donations from Sierra Leoneans and well-wishers to help halt the spread of the Ebola virus. Commending the various contributors, President Koroma said that the fight against Ebola is a national one and encouraged all Sierra Leoneans to come together to enhance effective collaboration to eradicate the virus. “Even though Ebola has disrupted a lot of things by adversely affecting our growing economy and the livelihood of the people” the President said, “the need for national commitment cannot be overemphasized and every aspect of it must be fully involved.” he noted. With this, President Koroma expressed hope that very soon the issue of Ebola will be a thing of the past particularly so when Sierra Leoneans have overwhelmingly demonstrated their willingness to put a strong fight against Ebola. “The three days stay at home has had a huge success and I am sure by December, the situation will return to normalcy” President Koroma stressed. He also stated that with the efforts of the government and support from the international community, Ebola will be contained in the shortest possible time. President Koroma further declared that as the government continues to register increased gains in the sensitization, government will cascade its efforts in having more treatment centres, enhance logistical support and effective management of emerging cases and the provision of the required training to the burial teams. The Nigerian High Commissioner Madam Gladys Modupeola Quist-Adebiyi as part of their effort to fight Ebola donated Thirty Thousand United States Dollars ($30,000) to help fight the outbreak. Whilst lauding the leadership of President Koroma and the success of the three days stay at home, Mrs. Adebiyi noted that the donation is meant to help sensitize teachers after schools shall have been opened as well as provide Ebola sensitization kits for children to prevent the reversal of gains that would have been made. President Koroma described the contribution as unique, saying that teachers form a very important work force in the country. Whilst recalling the civil unrest in the Federal Republic, President Koroma appreciated Nigeria’s role in restoring peace in the country and especially so at this time when the country is going through trying times. As efforts continue to come from both the public and the private sectors, the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, the Basharia Mission and Mr. Klin as part of their contribution donated One Hundred Million Leones (Le 100,000,000), Twenty-One Million Leones (Le 21,000,000), and Twenty Million Leones (Le 20,000,000) respectively. Led by the Secretary General of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh on behalf of the Women’s Wing in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland made a cash donation of Forty Million Leones (Le 40,000,000) to aid the fight against Ebola. Mr. Yansaneh also disclosed that additional help in the form of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) will follow. President Koroma in his response said that was the fourth time the party is making donations in the fight against Ebola and that it clearly demonstrated that the party in governance takes the greatest responsibility as it was shown in the recently concluded three days stay at home. Beyond Mining Explosives donated Four Hundred (400) Bags of rice to help government in the provision of food to quarantined homes and treatment centers, whilst the Sierra Leone Timber Association donated One Hundred and Eleven (111) Veronica Buckets, Sixty-six Jerry Cans, and Seven Hundred and Forty (740) Veronica taps.
