Not all that long ago, I used several Facebook forums to voice some pretty large concerns about a very expensive and not very well thought out iPad initiative that was to be voted on by FBISD. The handful of folks who showed up for the Board meetings where iPads were discussed and later voted upon can back me up on the fact that not nearly enough FBISD residents voiced their opinion on the expenditure. And so - it very not surprisingly went through. Im here now to appeal to all FBISD/City of Sugar Land residents. THE CITY IS PLANNING TO ADOPT AND IMPLEMENT A REVISED LAND USE PLAN! THEY HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO SURVEY THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. THE LAND USE FORUMS HAVE ALL BEEN RELATED TO HIGH-DENSITY HOUSING, APARTMENTS, URBANIZATION, MASS TRANSIT ETC. Please dont let this just slip through our fingers - - if you feel great about the potential changes to the City, let the City know. Or, if you - like me - are happy with Sugar Lands existing land use plan - and if you would prefer to maintain Sugar Lands suburban feel as opposed to emulating Houston, please let the City know. I truly dont want to be on these forums 2 years from now hearing everyone asking how it all happened. Ask the City real questions. Why does the City believe something as potentially lifestyle-altering as a land use plan update would NOT be community-wide survey worthy? It makes me question how much feedback the City actually is looking for. How many residents have actually shown up for the land use forums - in total? It is most definitely a small number. How many residents in the City are there? Why would the City want to change its land use plan based on the opinions of a potentially inconsequential percentage of the population? what is the down side to throwing some questions out to all of the communitys residents? Spread the word - - have a voice. Thank you.
