Now pay close attention here boys and girls while I describe for you the problem (the problem that only I can articulate, it seems): Only one officer does the beating (the bad cop). Multiple officers pull the bad cop off of the victim (the good cops). As so many of you point out, there are many more good cops than bad cops. I agree. Now for the part where the intelligent among us leave the cattle behind: The department took no action until the news reporter turned over the video; then, suddenly, they wax all ethical and put the bad cop on leave and open an investigation. The fact that other officers observed this and had to restrain the shitbird, yet covered up and took no action, means that--although we have abuses dozens or hundreds of times every day in our country--nothing ever happens until and unless there is a video. You see, the problem is NOT the number of good cops v. bad cops. I hear that simple-minded shit over and over. The problem is a police culture where NO cops can take action against another cop without getting stomped on. The thin blue line. The culture has to change. Until it does, you all just get used to the violence, blood, and unrest, because its going to get worse. Body cameras are a start, but the problem is that they will be controlled by the police. Sure, we need body cams, but they will only be effective to the extent that they force a change in police culture. We also need tough laws (laws with teeth, and a private right of action) to protect whistleblowers. These laws must specifically allow actions against agencies and individuals, punitive damages, and no qualified immunity. These videos are now being uploaded almost everyday. And the cattle of our society are so stupid that they let the republicans bullshit them into supporting laws to suppress people who would video.
