ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY One of the early occurrences of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 took place this day when the country’s moderate prime minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana was assassinated by the Génocidaires. Some were angry that she, as a woman, had been given the position as prime minister, and once the president was shot out of the sky, she took over as president of Rwanda for 14 hours but forces came, killed her and raped her.
