ONNA STATE CONSTITUENCY: INDO: A MAN PREPARED FOR THE MANDATE. The core areas of duty of a parliamentarian is representation of the component parts of a constituency through its law making and oversight functions. In this way, a parliamentarian contributes to guaranteeing the peoples rights, securing civil peace and ensuring harmonius development. An aspirant for the position of a parliamentarian must have the ability to express the will of the people through people oriented bills and the stamina to push these bills through every hurdle until it becomes law. ONNA State Constituency presently occupied by Hon. Godwin Oton whose tenure elapses by 2015, is to be jostled for by sons and daughters of ONNA who believe they can use the exalted position to impact meaningfully into the lives of the people through their vast knowledge of the problems of ONNA, their dynamism and character... but this position by virtue of its strategic importance is not about whoever is interested in it but who the cap fits at this time and who will deliver to the people, the dividends of democracy. For the benefit of those who may not have a proper knowledge of why the people of ONNA are so interested in who the next occupant of this office will be: ONNA is one LGA that has never been in short supply of qualified, charismatic, intelligent, successful, hardworking sons and in such a situation, eagle eyes diligence has to be deployed in selecting the best man. The losses of the people of ONNA in the past years are phenomenal because at a time in ONNA the leadership recruitment process was skewed to favour the never-do-wells, people of low intellect, misfits and those whose only qualification was sycophantic prowess. Having been left behind by other Constituents in proper representation of interest, we demand a quantum leap and this we deserve! The task of representing ONNA at the House is obviously an onerous one and must not be toyed with. For this reason, Hon. Nse Essien, popularly called INDOMITABLE, whose ambition to represent the people of ONNA in the State House of Assembly is much spoken of and has attracted overwhelming support is my man. Who is this man and why is his aspiration a celebrated one? Why is everyone on his side? What meaningful impact will his stewardship bring? What difference will it mark? Being myself a grassroot politician, I can say without being presumptuous that, it will be an herculean task for any other aspirant to displace this man in the heart of the people of ONNA. The man is at home with the youths of ONNA. The mans love for the weak is indisputable. The man has the stamina to stand fighting for the oppressed. His firm grip of knowledge of the problems and handy solutions sets him apart. And to worsen everything the people believe in him. He has promised the youths that he will set a pace in capacity building and empowerment. He has promised to make meaningful impact and touch the lives of the people in ways thought impossible. He has vowed to raise more leaders and give hope to the hopeless. Are these empty electioneering promises that will soon evaporate with the powers he will get? Will the people regret standing by him? Somebody answered by saying this mans antecedent affirms his ability. I believe the people cannot take anymore heartbreak. Somebody must save them from being used and dumped. Majority of voters in ONNA feel INDO has no opponent as far as the State House contest is concerned, I only wish we could have a good opposition so they people will have a role to play in the process of electing who is best qualified but, when a man says yes, his chi concurs-Chinua Achebe. INDO used his time to warm his way into the heart of the grassroot, peasants, market women and elites. He went through the crucible of political tutelage with a cheerful spirit knowing that one day the people will demand his services. As the time draws near, the people should nonetheless, be ready to hold aspirants for different positions to meaningful interaction. Let them tell of their strategic plans of how their stewardship will be of benefit to the the land. How the people of ONNA; both the aspirants and the voters will conduct themselves between now and the election period will speak volumes of how prepared we are to take our destiny in our hands and make the most of it!!!
