OWERRI ZONE AND 2015- THE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM Imo state came into existence on the 3rd of February, 1976 under the rulership of the late military ruler of Nigeria, Murtala Muhammad. The need for owerri zone to produce the next executive governor of Imo state cannot be overemphasized. Thus, its need remains paramount and non-negotiable. My conviction for this was borne out of my stand for equity, fairness and Justice. Imo a state characterized by its distinctive nature ought not be seen from a perspective contrary to peoples true perception about her. Equity as it is been defined is impartiality or fairness. This then presumes that the three senatorial zones of Imo state should be fairly and effectively represented. Be it as it may, I still remember vividly that there was a charter between the affected zones in the year 1999. These three zones are namely okigwe, orlu, and owerri respectively. Suffice me to to say that owerri zone from what is liated down below seems to have been deliberately marginalized; A. Okigwe zone Samuel onunaka Mbakwe 1st October 1979 - 31st December 1983( won a second tenure but was truncated by Major General Muhammadu Buhari) B. Owerri zone Evan Enwerem January 1992 - November 1993( did not complete his tenure because the transition to civil rule was not successful) C. Orlu zone Achike Udenwa 29th May 1999 - 29th May 2007( completed two tenure i.e eight years) D. Ikedi G Ohakim 29th May 2007 - 29th May 2011( failed to secure a second tenure) E. Orlu zone (again) ? Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha 29th May 2011 - date Sincerely speaking, I believe that every right thinking and patriotic Imolite would ask, is owerri zone part of Imo state? Or were they not part of the charter that produced an orlu son as a governor in 1999? Furthermore, I am well convinced that we do not need to be told that owerri zone should be massively supported to produce the next executive governor of Imo state. In the interest of equity, we should all not allow bickering and self destruction to cause crack, rather orlu and okigwe zones should rally round and massively support owerri zone. It is just, fair and equitable for owerri zone to produce the next executive governor of Imo state come 2015. WE MUST INSIST ON IT. It is either owerri zone or nothing.
