Obedience to God is not about a feeling. It is about doing what is right in God’s eyes even when it is uncomfortable. We can never rightfully compromise with God’s word. We either are for God and his ways and his Word or we are against Him. There is no negotiating with God. His ways are perfect. Ours are not. So why do we constantly find ourselves in conflict with a Holy God? There are times we don’t like to follow Him. One of the first words a baby learns to say is NO! Our very nature is against God! We have to mature above the rebellious stages of childhood and learn that by being submissive to the will of the Father we are choosing His wisdom. That is the wisest thing we can ever do! The Bible tells us the heart is deceitfully wicked! We can’t go on our feelings! Our feelings lie! Have you ever thought you loved something only to be sorely disappointed later? We all have. We look back at choices we made when we were young and say,” What was I thinking!” At the time we made these choices we FELT it was a great idea! So how do we know right from wrong and how to make right choices even when it is uncomfortable ? Ezra wrote the 119th Psalm. Psalm 119:2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. 11 Thy word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against thee. 12 Blessed art thou, o Lord : teach me thy statutes. 15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Ezra had the right idea. Get in the Word. Seek his truth with your whole heart. Hide his word in your heart that you might not sin against God. Read and study and know the Word of God and then when you are faced with opposition to truth you are able to choose rightly to the glory of God! Don’t leave it up to people’s opinion and the popular ideas of the day. Ask the Lord to reveal the truth to you as you read his word then don’t close the book when you get to where you want to scream NO like a two year old! Father in Heaven we bow down to you this day and ask you to show us your will for our lives and direct our paths as we take the time to meditate on your Word. You are Holy Lord .We know we are nothing without you. Your will is perfect and true. We trust you and pray we obey you even when it is uncomfortable and difficult for us to do. We praise you Lord. Give us strength as we seek to obey you . Let us shine for you and your glory as we boldly reflect Christ and not the ways of the world. Help us to remember we are not citizens of this world but of Heaven above only here on commission to share your gospel with the world, not to partake in their ways but to show them yours. Let us hear and obey you. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
