October 21st 2014 Well hello everyone how was your day I hope you were not in the heat too much, and kept cool for most of the day. I know I kept cool under the air con and thats only because I have to keep my skin temperature cool because of the chemo. Karen got up early this morning and her and Rubie went to the beach and played in the water, on the way home Rubie had a bath and Karen bought Subway for lunch. Today was going to be a busy day after lunch as I had three appointments today, radiotherapy, chemo and an appointment with my chemo Dr. Earlier today I posted a picture of Wilma showing she was nearly empty of her cargo, and that today she will be filled back up (replaced) but will still be called Wilma. We walled outside to leave for the hospital and I could not believe have close it was outside, the heat was not too bad bit the warm wind made it uncomfortable. Driving to to hospital we noticed some trees had dropped their limbs due to the hot day, so beware walking under gum trees people because you could be struck by a falling branch. We arrived at the clinic and we headed for the radiotherapy suite, I swiped in and we sat in the patient lounge room. After around 10 mins the girl came and got me and in I went to get setup, everything seem normal and the girls walked out and said see you after the treatment. I was laying there listening to all those familiar noises, when suddenly the girls came back in and said my hips were not lining up. They got me to sit up and reposition and then moved the table I was laying on back to the start point and the scanner and radiation lens moved back to the start point. This time it was ok and I could here the firing of the radiation into my body as per usual, the lens rotated around my body and fired again. The girls came back in and said all done Andrew and helped me up off the table, I slipped my shoes on and said see ya tomorrow girls. Karen and I then went into the chemo suite and there I singed the forms to admit me into the hospital as an inpatient, once admitted we sat down in the waiting room. Soon the nurse came in and called my name, and walked us into the suite she asked me to sit down in the big comfy chair. I took my shirt off and the nurse then started gown up and putting on the purple gloves, which means she is going to remove Wilma. The tape around the connection was undone and then Wilma was removed from the PICC line, and thrown into the purple bin for cytotoxics. The nurse then started to remove all the old dressings on my PICC line and clean up my skin, all that was left was the tube of the PICC line hanging out my arm. The nurse then took off the gown and purple gloves, washed her hands and pit on normal surgical gloves to reapply my dressings. The dressings were done and then the new Wilma was removed from the black plastic, the nurse then asked another nurse to check the cytotoxic was the correct one for me. The nurse read my wrist band details out which was my name, DOB and UR number (Unit Record Number) this was all confirmed back by the other nurse, they then asked me to say my full name and DOB. The nurse then connected A syringe to my PICC line and flushed the line with saline solution, then Wilma was connected to the PICC line. Then we were all finished with the chemo nurse and had to go and see the Dr now. The Dr was waiting and called me into his office, we sat in the chair and he asked how I was doing. He then asked specific questions like any side effect so far and I answered a little diarrhea and nausea but none of that the last few days. He then asked if I had felt any improvements with pain or blood loss, I said the pain was a little better and I have only seen blood once and that was last Friday. The Dr then gave me my scans from when my PICC line was fitted so I could take home, I will try to photograph this tomorrow to show you. So I hope you all have a good evening and yahoo tomorrow is hump day so your week is getting shorter thanks for taking the time to read my posts.
