Ok boys so I have been back working a bunch recently at Desert Moon Productions here in Vegas and not at my home studio. Since the studios inception its been totally ITB. They have an amazing drum room that is massive and makes drums sound incredible. I was talking to the owner and hes considering putting in a console and some outboard. My recommendation to get started is a stereo pair of 1176s or clones, stereo pair of Distressors for the compressor department, and Maybe a lunch box with an assortment of goodies. As for whats in house at the moment We have 6 BAE 312As and 16 Channels of Focusrite Octopre, not the best but ti do love the BAEs even though the headroom is a bit lacking. Anyway he was talking to me the other day and wants to get a console. hes a 70s guy, wants to make records on tape, get the analog warm thing happening. I was wondering what you guys recommend in the console department. There is really no budget for something like a big ol Neve, SSL, or API, but I can probably get the guy to dump 20k or so into a console. I was looking at the Toft stuff and it seems pretty awesome, but havent really heard anything tracked on them... So talk up some consoles and lets get to it! The attached photo is the room:
