On June 24 Phil Collins, best known as a pop music icon of the 1980s and front man for the band Genesis, was presented with lifetime free admission to the Alamo, following his donation of more than 200 pieces of Alamo memorabilia and artifacts, according to The New York Times. Collins began seriously researching and collecting Alamo artifacts more than two decades ago. In that time he has amassed what is said to be the largest private collection of Alamo memorabilia and artifacts in the world. It also served as the basis for the Brits 2012 book — “The Alamo and Beyond: A Collector’s Journey.
