On Saturday, June 22, I am hosting a Welcome Home Veterans & Resource Fair event at Noble Park to welcome home local troops who have recently returned from military service. The event will begin at 11 am with an opening ceremony. A resource fair will be available and include tables hosted by VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Veterans Supportive Services Agency, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, Kards4Soldiers, California Public Utilities Commission, San Jose Veterans Center, Work2Future, Tech Shop San Jose, California EDD,and Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski. Free lunch will be served by the Retired San Jose Police and Fire Fighters Association. I need your help in identifying local veterans who have recently returned from service. If you know a local veteran, please email me at [email protected] or call my office at 408-535-4904 with their name and contact information. I want to invite these veterans and have them recognized for their service. I am also partnering with Operation: Care and Comfort to organize a care package assembly area to create care packages that will be sent to troops serving overseas. We are seeking the following kinds of food donations: beef jerky, beef sticks, non-refrigerated cheese sticks, canned foods (soups, raviolis, meats, fruit, etc.), tuna packs with crackers, ready to heat meals (non-refrigerated), instant noodles, nuts, granola, trail mix, peanut butter, jam (plastic containers), crackers, breakfast and protein bars, instant oatmeal packets, breakfast bars, pop tarts, powdered drink mixes (single serve for water bottles), fruit leather, fruit snacks, and gallon sized zip lock bags. If you are unable to attend but still want to donate items, you can drop off your donation at the Berryessa Community Center.
