On Sunday, 12 October 2014, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, represented by Ring Strong and Larry Slagle, participated in Bells Across America. Bells Across America is an initiative advanced by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to remember and commemorate those fallen firefighters in 2013. The program asks and encourages any and all organizations who maintain custody of a bell to sound that bell on this day in question. The purpose is to foster recognition and appreciation of those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice while providing service and protection to their communities. Here, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company bell was tapped a total of 108 times!!! Once for those 107 firefighters who laid down their lives in 2013. The last and final tap is for all those who have lost their lives in previous years throughout history!!!
