One of the absolute highlights of not just the Japan trip, but the past few years, was being present during the very first time that directors Shizuo Nakajima (WOLFMAN VS GODZILLA) and Shinpei Hayashiya (GAMERA 4, REIGO VS YAMATO, RAIGA) met face to face. I have spent the past dozen years looking for these men and their films, and this was the long awaited climax to my quest. We had a wonderful dinner at KAIJU SAKABA, the Ultraman theme bar and restaurant in Kawasaki. The attached cell phone video captures a moment from that historic meeting. KAIJU GAIDEN is the documentary which celebrates directors such as these men who continue to produce tokusatsu and kaiju films in Japan. Our Kickstarter campaign is in its final 19 days and we are at roughly 1/3 of our goal. PLEASE help to spread the word of this film and the Kickstarter campaign. KAIJU GAIDEN is a documentary focusing on an area of the tokusatsu genre that is generally overlooked or outright unknown even among hardcore fans. For the first time, meet the directors who have overcome hardships to produce independent films that have only been rumor or legend until this point, and see footage from their elusive films. Director David Hall and myself have just returned from Japan where we met with and filmed interviews with the featured filmmakers. Until this point, David and I have completely financed this project ourselves, but now we are at the point where we need your help. We have incurred many expenses and the arduous process of editing and post-production has just begun. We would like to release KAIJU GAIDEN on DVD and BluRay as a permanent document of these independent works. Fifteen years ago, I began searching for these films because no one else either knew of their existence or cared enough to take the time and effort to track them down. I have done the work.
