One recent 16,000-subject study showed that those who consume at least 2 servings (one cup each) of berries per week (strawberries or blueberries) delayed cognitive decline by 2.5 years. It is thought that the flavonoid anthocyanidin found in berries crosses the blood-brain barrier and helps prevent cell damage and inflammation. To maximize health, increase consumption of organic, unprocessed fruits and veggies, especially low-fat and fiber-rich berries.
