One time, when I was 15 years old, my older girlfriend would sometimes let me drive her car. One night I was sitting in the middle seat, and I was using my left hand to steer with and my straddled left leg for the pedals below, while my sister and her boyfriend were in the back seat. It was raining this particular evening, and we were smoking a lot of marijuana, and I was having too much fun driving. . We came to the heart of downtown and I was about to make a left turn, one handed remember, and on a slick wet pavement. Being 15 and stoned on pot I floored the gas pedal around this turn. The car went far left, then far right, missing parked cars on both sides of the street, and finally it made a sudden sharp right, over a standing downtown tree and into a public brewery, knocking over their wooden bar inside, and all of the drunks came running out to see us. . I’m inside the car, head bleeding from slamming into the rear view mirror and into the windshield, right knee cap broken from the glove box, sitting in the middle trapped, trying my best to get out of this car parked atop a damned 6” round tree before the police arrive. And they were right up the street. . The police were there in minutes and in fact saw the whole thing. The officer said, and I quote, “Yea, I saw it all… and the driver did her best to control the vehicle, it was clearly an accident.”
