One year ago today, Washington gridlock forced a government shutdown. During that time, I shared several stories from people back home who were being harmed, because I wanted my congressional colleagues to know how their irresponsible actions were harming real people. One story I shared was from Sarah, who lives in Folsom. Sarah had a close friend who was battling a rare bone cancer, had a one year old daughter, and was on a harsh chemotherapy regimen. Her friend had just been accepted into a government sponsored clinical trial, but then the shutdown put her potentially life-saving treatment on hold. Sarah wrote to me pleading, asking: Please dont let my friends daughter grow up without a mother. You can click on the video below see me read Sarah’s letter on the House floor.
