Only Love -by Grant M. French 7/9/2013 (special thanks to Jackie M for being my muse) Teacher told me, now I know, That the love must truly flow. Tyrants coming, say no man, May stand by me, woman can! I must now ask this to you, Will she be forever true? If my beholden heart will shine, One must eternally be mine! So hold my cherished love to be, The one to wed I cannot see. If not a lass it’s not my choice, Only can be love’s true voice! So hold one true to thy soul’s path Fearing no immortal wrath. If there be choirs up above, They must sing the song of love! I fear only untrue hearts, The ones who may not voice their parts. Avoid the ones who would condemn, For they may mar the holy hymn! Short passion makes a fiery rhyme, While true love must endure all time. I am he who may never know, Yet where love leads, there I must go! This remember, one command, That by thy heart ye truly stand. For one alone wilt thou embrace, Eternally, if given grace! You alone breathe your soul’s breath Save for the one you’ll share it with. Let no man or woman sanctify, Love that they would e’er let die.
