Our first Arts Award session is this Saturday 20th September and - TopicsExpress

Our first Arts Award session is this Saturday 20th September and will take place at Redbridge Studios. This is temporary until I have an alternative venue sorted out i.e. Lads and Girls Club. Please note that rehearsal sessions are currently fortnightly and will therefore not be running this week. This session is optional and is for those who wish to, or think they may wish to, go for a Bronze or Silver Arts Award qualification. All ages can attend. Please go to artsaward.org.uk for more information. The chance to gain these awards, and the costs of moderation and all resources are provided for FREE by us for those who attend. We have had great success in previous years with approximately 50 young people achieving awards so far, which are of great help in applying for college, university, training, volunteer placements and employment. Each award will require attendance at most of these sessions and approximately 15-30 hours of independent work at home over the next 6 months, so it isnt much when spread out. I am aiming for moderations (where official passes will be provided) to take place around Easter 2015. The purpose of the award is to more fully investigate your chosen artform (music, although we can accommodate other artforms) and develop yourself as an artist. You will see that most work can be done within Rock It!, which really helps in terms of time and cost. Here is a quick overview of each and their module parts: Bronze: Heroes and Heroines - research and create a short presentation on your musical hero/heroine Taking part - take part in musical activities (already covered with Rock It! so far) Go to an event - attend a musical event (I will often organise a group trip for this) and review it Share your skills - teach someone else a musical or vocal piece, run a workshop etc (can be done within Rock It!) Bronze is equivalent to a low pass at GCSE level Silver: Arts Challenge - set yourself a new challenge i.e. composing a short piece, learning basics of a new instrument, combining a new artform i.e. visual arts, with music (done within Rock It!) Research - research arts careers, training, education, visit an organisation and interview an artist - create your own career path! (done within Rock It!) Review an arts event - Attend an event and review it Leadership challenge - Run an event (can be done within Rock It! for one of our events), run a workshop or lesson - show leadership! Silver is equivalent to a high pass at GCSE level I will provide stationary etc for this work. Not everything has to be written, so if you or your child struggles with this, there are options to create things visually on computer, record on video/phone and so forth. I am also now a GOLD Arts Award advisor, so any older volunteers/trainees can speak to me if they with to embark on a Gold qualification (A-Level equivalent). Phew! Apologies for the length of this email. If you still have any questions, just let me know.
