PITTSFIELD-Gloria E. (Beattie) McNichol, 79, lovingly known as Auntie Glo, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on December 30, 2014, at her home in Pittsfield. She was born on April 23, 1935, in Pittsfield, Maine, the daughter of the late Charles and Marguerite (Ranney) Beattie. One of her first jobs was helping to make deliveries with her father, who owned C.G. Beattie and Son. She also worked for Humphrey’s Drug Store and later in life was employed at Bud’s Shop-n-Save. Gloria graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1953 and was very proud of her school. She really enjoyed attending the yearly reunions and monthly luncheons. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, ski-dooing, taking rides on her moped and camping in Northport, Maine. She also enjoyed sitting out on her deck and being able to cook meals on the grill. She treasured her family and loved her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Joseph McNichol of Pittsfield; children, Stephen McNichol and companion, Vanessa Merrill, both of Hartland, Sylvia McNichol and companion, Brian Rogers, both of Pittsfield and Richard McNichol of Hartland; Marie McNichol, former daughter-in-law, of Pittsfield; granddaughters, Martinique Allen and husband, Nathan, of Westbrook and their daughter, Adrianne Allen, Glo’s only great grandchild, and Monique Moody and husband, Andrew, of Pittsfield, currently stationed in Italy; brother, Robert Beattie of Pittsfield; sister, Joyce Williams of Pittsfield; niece, Susan; nephews, Scott and Robbie; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a grandson, Tyler McNichol; and her very best friend, Carla Bertrand. The family wishes to say a special thanks to Annette for the loving care and compassion she gave to Gloria. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A gathering will follow at the Elks Lodge, 140 Middle Street, Pittsfield. All are welcome to attend. A spring committal will be held at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mountain Rescue, 225 Dexter Road, Corinna, Maine, 04928, in Gloria’s memory.
