PNG celebrates another year of Independence this week with a public holiday on Tuesday September 16th to mark our 39th year post colonialism. We are an independent sovereign nation. Can we be one? Instead of reliance on external sources of income can we become truly self reliant? We are a resource rich nation and yet we are revenue poor. Why is that? After 39 years you would think that someone would get it right! Instead of selling our abundant natural resources overseas, can we at least try and invest and build the plants to process our resources in country and keep the wealth for our people? Dont you think its about time we stood on our own two feet instead of begging and borrowing? We need to tighten our belts and stop living beyond our means. If we have to suffer a little now to become a little better financially in the future than so be it. Sometimes we have to toughen up, take calculated risks and make drastic changes if it means improving on what we are always doing even if it means going against the tide. We need to get out of our comfort zones.. Tired of hearing about all the ideas of grandiosity. Politicians, put your money where your mouth is and for goodness sake work together for the people who put you where you are! My 2toea thoughts tasol..
